Last Saturday I did my Screen Reads program at the library. It was really fun, but I also learned a lot.
All together there were 12 of us in attendance to watch Jurassic Park, a movie I had
never seen, but it appeared for the most part that everyone else had. The movie itself was good, but not anywhere close to how good the book was. I will have to say, without ruining it for you in case you decide to read the book, that it was very loosely based on the book. Basically, the name was the same, they were both about dinosaurs, on an island, and they had some of the same characters.
The first thing I learned was that I did not allow myself enough time. I scheduled the program from 2 to 5, but it was a two hour long movie, and I had to be at the desk at 5, so we did not really get a chance to discuss. There was a lot of discussion during the movie, but not everyone got to participate in that. Next time, when we watch Princess Bride, I will give myself more time. It is only a ninety eight minute movie, so I am already ahead of the game there. I am also going to ramp up my promotion so I can hopefully get more people to come.
Speaking of people, I did have the best crowd ever. One of them even showed up
with a stratified dinosaur cake with a dinosaur skeleton on top. As you can see, it was amazing. Two others showed up with their own comfy chairs, which was a great idea. They also brought blankets so they could get cozy for their movie experience.
I asked all in attendance to vote for the next book to movie experience, and they chose Princess Bride, which is one of my all-time favorite movies. I have never read the book, but I currently have it on hold, waiting patiently for it to arrive. There are only 3 copies available in all of the FVRL system, so if you would like to join us, place your hold now. We will all have to read it really fast, so the next person can have a chance. The next Screen Reads will be on Saturday April 19th, from 2-5pm. I hope that you will join us then.
